event: Shonen Knife, Petty Morals, Saralee at The Middle East Upstairs 09.22.14

hi everyone!
yesterday i spent the day in Cambridge and went to a concert later on that night (which is how this post came to be). i was so so incredibly lucky - tickets had been sold out for weeks and i had come to terms with the fact i wouldn't be going. however, the afternoon before the show, someone replied to my WTB post for tickets in the Facebook event, and i happened to be online at the time!

to begin the day, i went to Genki Ya for lunch, a fantastic sushi spot at Fresh Pond. i'll do a proper review at some point, but this time around i was too hungry to stop and take photos haha!

parked at Alewife and took the Red Line into Central Square. i stopped at H-Mart while i was waiting for the tickets. i bought some delicious macarons and a Mango Mojito tea drink~

i ended up walking around Central Square for the few hours left before the show. i stopped into some shops, did some people watching, and relaxed.

i ended up grabbing a few drinks at the bar attached to the venue, Zuzu. i had walked by, and looking in, thought i saw the members of Shonen Knife eating dinner! (it was totally them i found out later) i was sooooo so very nervous to even go inside. i listened to Shonen Knife and The Ramones all throughout middle school and high school, and there they were, just sitting down to eat! it was pretty crazy for me. i did muster up enough courage to go inside and pretend i was totally not freaking out (haha)

doors opened at 8:00PM and the first band went on stage around 9:00PM - Saralee. i had never heard of their music before, and i couldn't get over the lead singer's voice! it's very powerful. i also enjoyed Petty Morals, the next band. they had a lot of energy! around 10:45PM, Shonen Knife joined the stage.

i was so happy, they played a great mix of older songs and material from their new album Overdrive. they played 3 of my favorite songs, Antonio Baka Guy, I Wanna Eat Chocobars, and Bear Up Bison. i almost cried at Chocobars, that's my #1 favorite of theirs, and then laughed that i was getting so emotional over a song about chocolate!

they did come back for one encore, then went over to the merch table for a short autograph session. i wish that photos had been allowed with the band, but in order for everyone to get a chance at autographs, pictures could not be taken.

i bought 2 posters, 2 albums, guitar picks, a shirt, and 2 Saralee cassettes!
