the lolita lifestyle: 30 ideas for a spring meetup

hi everyone!

as spring begins to manifest itself from the winds of winter, lolitas can finally look forward to agreeable weather and more frequent get-togethers! to commemorate this, i have put together some tips to creating your next gathering~

ask your friends and community for help
don't feel shy about asking for help. in many cases, your friends will happily assist you, from providing an objective opinion to collaborating with you on hosting the meet.
before posting i asked my local community for input on meetups they would like to see happen. there were ideas listed i never would have thought of! (thanks guys!)

timing
it's important to give yourself enough time to plan and execute the event, time to let others know of your meetup, and if there are any other conflicts with other meetups.
if you wait for the last minute to post your event, it is very likely that guests may not be able to attend because of previous commitments, or there could be another event planned for that day.

be thorough
it depends on how grand your occasion will be - for International Lolita Day this past winter, my friends Kristen, Carly, and myself had to be -very- clear with the location about reservations, allergies, how many people, what time to expect us, and so on.
do your best to carry through your sense of urgency and detail to your attendees. check and double-check your date, time, location, directions are clear and easy to understand. be sure to provide any dress code, ticket/reservation cost, parking prices, or additional factors if necessary for your meet.
i have personally found it is better to have a lot of information available than to skip something which could lead to a misunderstanding.

from Boston's Swap Meet last June
utilize social media
personally i have found that using Facebook Event pages is very helpful in giving yourself an idea of how many people to expect for your event (but be sure to take into consideration your 'maybe' count!). you can also share events with other communities to see if they would like to attend.

read the newspaper
if you're having trouble thinking of possible meetup ideas or event locations, check out your local newspapers! there should be some sort of entertainment section which will list upcoming events for the next few days, week, or up to the entire month. they may also have an online publication that is searchable and easy to navigate. usually there is an array of free or cheap events that could interest you and your group!

have a backup plan
unfortunately, sometimes things don't always go according to how you plan them out. preparing a backup plan ahead of time will save you frustration and a headache! this could be as simple as scheduling a rain date for the meetup, or planning to move to a separate location.

brainstorm ideas and keep a running list
i have a few meets i would like to plan soon, but either i am unsure of it somehow, don't have time to plan it all out yet, or the event itself isn't happening for a few more months. however, it's always great to keep a list of meetups that you might want to create!

here is my current list!
