coordinate brainstorming: Marquis de Lafayette

hi everyone!

my newest obsession is the musical Hamilton, if you haven't had a chance to check out the original Broadway cast recording or see any clips online, i really urge you to give it a shot! Hamilton brilliantly tells the story of Alexander Hamilton through modern beats and insane lyrics penned by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who also performs as Hamilton himself.

one of my favorites in the OBC is Daveed Diggs (pictured at right), who plays both the Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson. in today's post, i will be taking inspiration from his Lafayette look into an ouji coordinate.

in Hamilton, Daveed plays the larger-than-life Lafayette in a navy blue jacket, white blouse with jabot, ivory breeches and black boots, with his hair tied back into a high ponytail. his jacket has gold embellishments, with gold epaulets on the shoulders and cuts off around the natural waist in the front.

the sleeves on his white blouse is long enough to show underneath the jacket, and is tucked into the band of the breeches, held up by a black belt. the breeches are fitted and end right at the kneecap.

using Lolibrary, i came up with the following coordinate.
let's start with the jacket!
the closest i could find to Lafayette's costume is this one by A/P, it's a navy color with gold buttons and epaulets, with a red satin lining which is very reminicient of his style.

for the blouse, i chose this one by Atelier Boz!
worn under the Admiral jacket, i feel that this would be very close to stage accurate.

i had a tough time deciding on the breeches. the Nostalgic pants aren't the right color but i like the length and the embellishments - very opulent and match the gold on the jacket. whereas the Rose Garden pants are a better color, but they're shorter; however they also have elegant trim.

again, i had trouble deciding between two items for the boots; the Jane Marple boots are beautiful (and expensive) and more stage accurate. however, aesthetically i like the A/P boots a little bit more.

until next time,
jessi
