the lolita lifestyle : how to help our communities II

hello everyone! back in February i wrote about ways i personally felt we could strengthen our communities online and in real life. i'd like to expand a bit on that post today.

i think it is important to go throughout your day with mindfulness - taking into consideration the actions you make, your choices, and what you ultimately decide to do with your time is very important and significant to yourself and others. i truly believe that practicing this, or at least doing your best to try, will strengthen our ties to each other and to our own sense of self.

there's a great post on Facebook happening tonight - for all the entertainment Rufflechat provides us, it also can be an important channel for discussion. the thread brings up a lot of valid points about the positives and negatives of our current lolita event scene, both in the United States and abroad.

to quote from my previous post about community,
"...another example [of giving back to your community] is money, which as lolitas, is a very important and valuable commodity! think of where you spend your money -- these are the companies that you are supporting."
if we continue to buy tickets, spend our money, and otherwise encourage events run by those who have ulterior motives, we are in turn supporting their actions and how they operate. this could mean that they run events for profit, using promises of internet fame as a motivator, mistreating staff or guests - this is exploitation, plain and simple. we should be demanding more from event organizers and each other.

the way that we can contribute to breaking a cycle of negativity, becoming stronger together, and enriching the international community is to support events that deserve to flourish. these are events that are run by lolitas, for lolitas and for the pure love and admiration of the fashion that ultimately ties us together.

what do you think can be done to improve the events in your area?

until next time,
jessi
